# From AI agents to SI agents

**In short.** In September 2026 the US government started calling artificial intelligence "Super Intelligence", or SI. In federal language an AI agent is now an SI agent. The order covers federal agencies, six frontier labs have signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, and industry leaders already use the term. Anyone who teaches agents now works with two names for the same thing.

## Who uses the new name

- **It covers** US federal agencies: their documents, communications and, over time, the language of their programmes and contracts.
- **The labs have signed on.** Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia and xAI signed the voluntary White House Accord on Super Intelligence the same week as the order.
- **Industry is trying it out.** Nvidia's Jensen Huang called data centres "SI factories, super intelligence factories", and Elon Musk corrected himself on stage: "AI — SI, pardon me."

## What it means for agent education

- **Two search terms instead of one.** Learners still type "AI agents". Government buyers, and anyone writing for them, now write "SI". Course pages, syllabuses and newsletters that use both reach both groups.
- **Government training uses the new words.** If federal agencies need staff trained on agents, their own documents will now call it SI.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is an SI agent?** "SI agent" is the AI agent under its new US government name. Since a September 2026 executive order, federal agencies say "Super Intelligence" (SI) instead of "artificial intelligence", so an AI agent becomes an SI agent in federal language. The technology is the same.
