From AI agents to SI agents

Published 2 October 2026 · learnagents.si

In short. In September 2026 the US government started calling artificial intelligence "Super Intelligence", or SI. In federal language an AI agent is now an SI agent. The order covers federal agencies, six frontier labs have signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, and industry leaders already use the term. Anyone who teaches agents now works with two names for the same thing.

What happened

29 Sept 2026Executive order Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence directed federal agencies to use "Super Intelligence" and "SI". The same week, Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia and xAI signed the voluntary White House Accord on Super Intelligence.

Frequently asked questions

What is an SI agent?

"SI agent" is the AI agent under its new US government name. Since a September 2026 executive order, federal agencies say "Super Intelligence" (SI) instead of "artificial intelligence", so an AI agent becomes an SI agent in federal language. The technology is the same.

Does everyone have to say SI instead of AI now?

No. The executive order applies to US federal agencies. Outside government the switch is voluntary: six frontier labs signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, and leaders such as Nvidia's Jensen Huang already use the term.

Should agent courses use "AI" or "SI"?

For now, both. Learners still search for "AI agents", while government buyers and documents now use "SI". Courses that cover both terms reach both audiences.
